Parked Domains
Acrylic on vinyl
2016
A parked domain is an internet address that is owned, but not associated with any services such as e-mail or a website. Domain parking is used to commodify addresses and create a market for buying and selling cyber space. Parked Domains compares virtual real estate to the period of "post-internet art" in the 2010's, referring to the concept's relationship with commodification. The painting is a rendering of a stock photo, another way in which contemporary digital media is commodified. The paintings are referenced from stock photos, digital images that are bound in commodified relationships.
Photographs are from the installation at OCADU Grad Ex (2016). Parked Domains was also shown at The Walls (Toronto, 2019).
